Kids.gov

Presented to you by the United States Government this website is designed to offer a simple and safe way for children to gain access to a large number of websites all designed to provide educational and information on a variety of topics from Art to Social Studies.

The website caters for a range of ages from (5-8) K-5 to Grade 6-8 (11-14 year olds) with a simple to use drop-down navigation system that allows you to go to the topic of your choice easily.   Taking Art sites for Grade K-5 as an example you will see that each link that has been provided is complete with a fairly detailed description of what is on offer from each particular site.   Remembering that this website is produced by the  Federal Citizen Information Center your already safe in the knowledge that each of these sites has been reviewed for relevance and appropriate content to the particular age group it targets.

There are well over a thousand links to a varying range of educational, governmental and school websites and covers more topics than you’d first think.   By looking a little deeper you’ll find that everything from reading and writing to health and safety are covered here.  The majority of sites that your directed to are either owned or sponsored by the government, for example many are departments within larger websites like the Library of Congress and the Center for Disease Control.  Because of this inter-departmental system of providing you access to sites that are effectively sub organisations of the main government of the U.S your less likely to get directed to dead or irrelevant links.
