The Logo pretty much sums this site up. Sponsored by the Priory Group who are Europe’s leading independent provider of acute mental health, and specialize in providing a comprehensive range of successful, evidence-based treatment programmes the Addictions site provides some pretty useful information on a range of addictions from Alcohol Addiction to what is the most recent of addictions being Internet Addiction.
The site is very easy on the eye when dealing with each specific topic and uses the ‘less is more‘ approach in the way they approach the problems they discuss. As each topic covered is done so in pretty much the same way we’ll take for the benefit of this review the way this site deals with Gambling Addiction for no other reason than during my studies I took on a part time job in turf accountants and saw enough of them pass through the doors of the shop I worked in.
The site starts with a simple explanation of what the particular addiction is, but still somehow managing to explain to the reader the ‘whole’ of the problem as opposed to what we ‘perceive’ to be what an addiction is, we’ve taken a snippet from the site as an example below.
“Like all addictions, Gambling or risk taking involves escaping from reality. It is not just the actual risk, but the whole panoply of events leading up to taking the risk and the fantasy which surrounds it.”
They then move on to a brief explanation of how you’d know if you had the addiction? How it develops? and whether it can be cured? They’ve managed to do this one one line statements on occasion which really keeps the topic matter uncomplicated, and after all, thats exactly what you need if you likely to be suffering from an addiction.
You need to be able to ‘understand’ what your being told in ‘layman’s terms‘ and this site does just that. It seems to have been made with that in mind and the navigation as equally simple. Each page covers one specific topic and on the right of each one you’ll see a simular list of links to different aspects of that particular addiction. From Articles written by some of the most eminent Scientists and Professors in the field to Personal Stories of those who’ve actually been there, this site offers you as much information on the topic of addiction as your likely to need.
